MY
STORY
After graduating with a degree in Graphic Design, I went into the area of e-learning, followed by a career in print: firstly for editorial advertising and then as a designer in the marketing department at Paul Smith. At this role, as well as taking on print briefs, I was being given some small digital briefs, being the only designer in the department with this kind of experience.

Around this time, with the introduction of smartphones, the need for digital designers was beginning to rocket and the term ‘User Experience’ became a job that you could do. A combination of design, technology and psychology, I was fascinated.

At this juncture I made a bold jump to a tech start-up and delved deeply into digital user interface and experience design. In a very small company, the other skills I had in areas such as offline marketing, brand and art direction were also appreciated and well utilised, as the company scaled up!

After a few years, and a huge uptake of digital design and UX skills and experience in SaaS, I accepted an appointment at Nottingham Trent University as a digital designer, where I worked in various cross-functional teams and on multiple products in their vast digital estate.

Working at pace and scale as a digital designer at NTU gave me a fantastic grounding to become an interaction designer at the Ministry of Justice. I admire the innovation of the Government Design System and enjoy being a small part of the big picture, whilst working in a user-centred way to help a diverse range of people.
